This wire that went thru a drilled wood stud behind wood panelling has spent many years arcing and slowly deterioriating with the point of a nail just sticking into it. Fortunately the customer noticed a burning smell in the bedroom and called an electrician. Don't ignore issues with your homes electrical system. Always call an electrician when you have concerns.
I'm seeing on to many occasions customers trying to keep up with the latest available technology by purchasing EV car chargers, Heat Pumps, Hot Tubs, and many more high use electrical items and expecting the old 100-amp service and panel in their homes to be enough. Before purchasing these items do yourself a favor and have a licensed electrician evaluate your current electrical service to see if its adequate for the electrical additions you are planning for in the future.
Apparently worked Todays Helper to hard :)
Exterior Service weather head up high where CMP connects to home bordering on shorting out. This was a close call for the customer. If the exterior service on your home or business is starting to look like it needs some attention don;t hesitate to call an electrician before you lose power or have a fire due to dangerous electrical conditions. Remember the exterior service on your home or commercial space is owned by you the owner and is not CMP's responsibility.
The installation of an automatic gable vent fan helps get rid of excess heat build up in attic due to poor ventilation ultimately helping keep the living space below cooler.
AFCI breakers are required by code and expensive to replace but priceless in respect to the extra protection they offer. I was called out to the home because of lost power in bedroom outlets, no standard breakers were tripped. after pulling apart outlets I found this receptacle that had actually started to burn. The receptacle was replaced and the circuit breaker was upgraded to a modern AFCI circuit breaker (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) in order to protect the circuit from letting this happen again. Standard circuit breakers do not protect from arcs like this one.

Is your ceiling exhaust fan a fire in the making? Bathroom exhaust fans should be inspected and cleaned on a regular basis and replaced as needed. Years of sticky hairsprays, lint and other foreign debris being pulled thru the unit will stick to the blades and motor creating an overheat situation. The motor wears out, gets hot and ignites the attached lint causing a full blown fire above.
Tired of a noisy non productive bathroom exhaust fan!! Installing an inline exhaust fan on the existing ductwork and removing the old fan motor turns your existing exhaust fan into a super quite and powerful unit without damage to sheetrock ceiling.
Another reason to keep your overhead service lines to your home away from the trees!! Lightening is always trying to find a path to a nice earth ground and the CMP electrical grid has one of the best available. Lightening in this picture struck the tree next to area overhead service to house was rubbing against it. It found the CMP earth ground but not without trickling some of the high voltage back into house damaging GFCI receptacle and garage door opener.
Please don't ignore those critters getting into your home!! during the cold months mice and chipmunks are always looking for somewhere warm to ride out the winter. They also get hungry and start chewing on everything they can find including wires in your walls and attic. This particular section of wire actually started to burn. If at all concerned have an inspection done!!
Don't neglect the exterior building service to your home!! What may seem just fine to the untrained eye could be an electrical disaster just waiting to happen. Small cracks in the service line leaked water into this meter enclosure for many years rusting up all of the critical electrical connections behind the CMP utility meter. Remember the building service is your property and responsibility to maintain not CMP
Another
lightning strike to an invisible dog fence!! Lightning struck the top of an 80'
tree shaving bark all the way to the ground where it jumped 6' and blew a hole
in the ground trying to reach the buried wires to the invisible dog fence. Once
it reached the underground wires it burned them apart and sent high voltage
back to garage where it cooked the electronics involved with the dog fence.
Unfortunately it didn't stop in the garage it followed the garage circuit back
to main house panel where it cooked a bunch of appliances and electronics.
Customer was very lucky the house didn't catch fire. I have run into this many,
many times over the years and it seems that the folks who install these systems
just don't get it. Be very cautious when having these installed in your home

Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) circuit breaker panels can appear to be working properly for years. BUT experts warn that if a Federal Pacific Electric panel experiences an overcurrent or short circuit, it may not keep the electrical circuits from overheating and could possibly pose a fire hazard.

Knob & Tube Wiring is an old and outdated form of electrical wiring and was never intended to carry the kinds of loads we currently use in our homes today. Also because no equipment ground exists in this older style of wiring it can become much more dangerous in the event of an electrical problem.

Back Stab Receptacles & Switches can at a minimum create circuit interruptions and in worst case scenarios fires and property damage. Use the screws when attaching wires not the backstab holes. Many electricians still use these poorly designed attachement methods we at Bradley Electric do not!! Give us a call today and request an inspection of your devices and to make the necessary corrections needed.
Generator Safety couldn't be more important. When dealing with a crisis many of us forget safety and dwell on the crisis at hand. Don't panic when the power goes out and take the time to review your safety plan when running a generator.

LIGHT FIXTURE OR OVEN ?!?! Don't neglect the lighting in your home. High wattage bulbs, and overheated wires are a recipe for an electrical fire. Everyone remembers the first time they got burned from an incandescent light bulb, not something you soon forget. Incandescent bulbs get very hot in the range of 250 degrees or more. Now seal a couple of those bulbs inside a glass dome and what you have basically created is an oven. Over time the heat from inside this fixture wears down the light sockets and wires in direct vicinity to the bulbs making them vulnerable to electrical issues. Older fixtures should be inspected and possibly replaced. Always follow the manufacturers direction on maximum bulb wattage.

Dimmer Compatibility issues with modern CFL and LED Bulbs. Because of the ongoing incandescent light bulb phase out, people are seeking new, more energy-efficient sources. Screw-in compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and screw-in light emitting diode bulbs (LEDs) are great, energy-saving alternatives but will not work with your current older style dimmers. Dimmers do exist for these style bulbs as long as the bulbs specify that they are in fact dimmable. Having issues, need dimmers updated, give Bradley Electric a call.
